Wishing you a very warm welcome from our Nursery team.
At Oasis Academy Temple, we believe that the Nursery year is really important in ensuring that your child gets the best possible start to their education. We know that every child is unique, and provide a safe and nurturing space for your child to learn through play based and explorative activity.
The development of positive relationships between staff and children is a priority, and we work alongside parents to ensure that children settle in quickly, and develop the independence, resilience and interpersonal skills which will enable them to succeed in the future. We are an inclusive setting, and welcome applications for children with additional needs.
We offer 65 full time Nursery places, term time only, from 8.50 am to 3 10 am each weekday. Children are eligible for a place starting in the September after their third birthday. We also offer places in our Breakfast club from 8.45 am each day.
We have six staff members in our Nursery , who look forward to working with you to achieve the best for your child.
We are proud of our Nursery and all of the learning areas we have to offer our children.
In our Nursery, all of our areas are set up to support your child to learn through their play. We believe that it is vital for children to be as independent as possible, which is why all of our resources are displayed on open shelving for the children to choose from. The resources are carefully selected to help the children learn and we keep the same basic ones in each area for the whole year. Each week resources are added to link to the topic that we are learning about or what the children have shown an interest in. There are always adults who are observing and responding to the children’s play, moving the learning forward.
Shelving in every area is cleaned daily by the cleaning staff, and Nursery staff clean plastic resources every week and wash soft items such as cushion covers and dressing up clothes as necessary. All resources are risk assessed using a ‘risk benefit’ system and a daily risk assessment is carried out every morning before the children arrive to ensure that the environment and equipment is safe.
Our areas include: sand tray, water tray, playdough table, mark making table, creative workshop, fine motor skills table, large construction, small construction, reading, maths, topic table, small world, open snack table, home corner and an additional role play area.
We have toilets and changing facilities on site.
Below is a video created by our dedicated nursery team, here at OA Temple, to show our new nursery parents how lovely our nursery provision is, and the wonders that await their children.
At Oasis Academy Temple, we believe that children's transition into the Academy is the key to successful lifelong learning. We understand the importance of ensuring that children feel safe and secure and believe that the best way to do this is to work together to ensure that every child gets the best possible start. Our induction procedures in the Early Years ensure that children are given time to build solid relationships with adults and their peers and to settle into their new unfamiliar surroundings.
These sessions are run by Early Years staff and give families the first chance to come into the Academy and to meet some of the key members of staff. It is a fantastic opportunity for your child to explore their new surroundings with the comfort and support of having their key care giver there with them. This will make the transition to dropping them off much less stressful as they become used to the Nursery and staff.
We know that this first meeting is one of the most important parts of beginning our relationships with your child. It is important that this first meeting should take place in familiar surroundings. Many children will be coming away from home for the first time when they start school and we want them to feel safe and secure with the new adults they will be working with. During our visit we really want to know all about your child and to gain an understanding of how best to support them settling successfully into the Academy.
You will then be invited to a Family Induction Session where you will have the opportunity to see the Academy’s facilities and resources and most importantly it will be time for the children to ‘play’ and explore their new surroundings alongside their family. During the visit there will be plenty of opportunities for you to ask questions and you will be encouraged to play alongside your child.
All staff and in particular your child’s ‘Key Person’ will endeavour to help you and your child feel at home and staff are always available should you have any questions or concerns.
A key person’s main duties will be to assist the child to settle into the Pre-school by:
- Introducing the parents/carers to the Pre-school
- Talking with parents/carers
- Keeping a special watchful eye on the child in the first few sessions
- Assisting the child to integrate and settle well into the Pre-school environment
- To provide for the emotional needs of the child e.g. to comfort and reassure the child at any time.
- To care for the child’s physical needs e.g. to assist with toileting or snack time as appropriate.
- To identify the child’s needs and incorporate them within the curriculum, ensuring that account is taken of race, culture, religion, language and family values.
- Observing, keeping records and monitoring the child’s progress.
- Liaising with parents/carers, encouraging them to contribute expertise.
- To develop a day-to-day rapport with parents/carers, informing them of their child’s activities and achievements and being available, at the beginning and end of each session to answer any questions or concerns.
- To contribute information about individual children to the planning of the Pre-school curriculum framework whilst respecting confidentiality as necessary.
- To liaise in conjunction with parents/carers and with statutory/professional personnel as necessary
At Oasis Academy Temple, we understand the vital role of our parents and carers, and strive to work together for the benefit of your child. We aim to build strong relationships with all of our parents and carers through open and honest communication at all times. Members of staff are always available for a quick word in the morning or at home time, but if you need a more in-depth discussion, we will arrange to see you as soon as possible at a mutually convenient time.
Each child will have a peg and a tray with their picture on. Your child’s coat and bag with a change of clothes will go on their peg. Their school bag will go in their tray or a large box on their class carpet. Any letters or forms will be handed to you or your child at the end of the school day or be posted on Tapestry. If you have any forms to return, then you can either hand them to a member of staff in the morning or put them in your child’s school bag.
We welcome our parents into our setting for events such as our Stay and Play sessions. These are built around special celebrations such as Diwali, Eid or Mother’s Day where you can come and do some craft activities with your child. Parents are also welcome and encouraged to attend events such as Sports Day and class assemblies.
We post our photos and observations of the children on Tapestry and encourage our parents to do the same so that we can talk about what your child does at home with them.
We want to share what we are teaching your child with you. It takes a community to help raise a child well, and we believe that in working with our parents and carers we can ensure that each child is getting the opportunities they deserve to consolidate their learning and take it with them as they grow up.
All new learning resources will be shared with you half-termly (through our curriculum newsletters) for you to use with your young ones over the weekends. You can also find tip sheets and learning resources here on our for inspiration.

We welcome you to our Nursery
Our Nursery at Oasis Academy Temple has classes for 3-4 year olds.
You may register your child with the school office when you have made a decision regarding your child’s nursery and pre-school needs. Their name will then be put on the waiting list and you will be notified when a place is available. Admission into the Nursery takes place in September.
Children will be admitted from the waiting list in order of priority:
· ‘Looked after’ and previously ‘Looked after’ children.
· Children who live in the school catchment and who will have siblings in school when they start Reception
· Children who live in the school catchment
Once we have offered a place for your child and you have confirmed, you will then be invited to a number of stay-and-play sessions in the summer term where you and your child can meet us and join in the activities in the Nursery. We have found these stay-and-play sessions invaluable in helping children become familiar with the nursery setting, and staff, and in providing time for parents and staff to meet and share information.
Parents/carers, please complete the form and return to the school office with the child's birth certificate and/or passport.
