Learning at Home

The platforms we are using are to provide 'high quality' online learning are as follows:

*Nursery and Reception are accessing our remote learning provision through Tapestry - videos are recorded and shared with parents via Tapestry along with activities for children to complete with adults at home. Phonics is delivered in line with ability levels to focus on targeted reading development.

*Years 1 to 5 are accessing our remote learning provision through ClassDojo - lessons are uploaded onto ClassDojo each day with explanation, modelled examples and resources, so that children can complete at home. Reading, writing and maths set each day with other lessons delivered across the week.

         - KS1 receive small group guided reading session (live weekly sessions in MS TEAMS)

         - Years 3, 4 & 5 participate in 'live check-ins' in the morning and afternoon (in MS TEAMS)

*Year 6 are accessing our remote learning provision through MS TEAMS

- In Year 6, class teachers have shared a weekly timetable of live lessons on MS Teams, work is submitted on MS Teams. Three live lessons a day for reading, writing and maths and then other areas of the curriculum are covered using an asynchronous approach. Children participate in a 'daily live book talk session at the end of the day. 

A member of staff from each class will be online to support you with any questions you may have about your child's work.

In the instance that children need to engage in remote learning, due to self-isolation, bubble closure or whole school closure, the academy will work hard to ensure that no child is left without work to do in the immediacy.

Parents will be able to log onto Tapestry and access the resources to support with the children's learning.  Pupils in Years 1 - 5 will be able to log into ClassDojo and Year 6 will be able to log into TEAMS, and access their lessons and work resources. Pupils will have access to teachers for support and guidance at set times within the normal school day hours.

The minimum amount of time remote education should be in practice for Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) is 3 hours per day. This may be less for younger children.

For Key Stage 2 children (Year 3, 4, 5 and 6) this is increased to 4 hours per day. This includes pre-recorded videos, PowerPoints and daily check-ins in MS TEAMS.  For Year 6, this also includes some live lessons.  The work pupils are set after these as well as other sessions such as times-tables practice and reading. Please refer to your child's timetable for their lesson times. 

Pupils will be able to log into and access TEAMS, ClassDojo, Accelerated Reader, MyON, and SUMDOG, Charange and Oak National Academy online resources.

We expect every pupil to engage in lessons as they would in the classroom, and similarly our staff will be checking the pupils' understanding in the same manner as well. This could take the form of online quizzes, marking/assessment of assignments or work uploaded to their ClassDojo, TEAMS or Tapestry portfolio or in-class engagement.

We know that strong parental engagement is important to make this successful, and therefore endeavour to communicate regularly with you around how the remote learning is going. We will be there to offer support on how to access the information remotely around resources, lessons and your child’s attendance, behaviour and engagement.

We will be checking that children are viewing the lessons on Tapesty, ClassDojo and TEAMS as well as uploading their work at the end of the lesson to their portfolio.  We will be carrying out quizzes to ensure we have a good overview of their understanding and engagement.  Feedback from their work will also help us to see how many children are actively engaging in lessons and we will be monitoring attendance of each lesson. 

If there are any concerns we will ensure we are in contact with you as parents and carers by telephone, message on ClassDojo or via email.

We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:

• Differentiated work via messages
• Paper packs to supplement learning where required after consultation with the SENCO
• Support from SENCO and staff in class
• Accessing a place in school, if necessary

Work will be sent through Class Story on ClassDojo or Assignments on TEAMS for pupils to complete at home and upload the completed work to their portfolio.  Pupils will also have access to their in-school apps such as SUMDOG, MyON and Accelerated Reader.
