The Cheetham Cultural Festival Opening Ceremony
Oasis Academy Temple were honoured to host the opening ceremony and welcome the local community for the annual Cheetham Cultural Festival.

The annual Cheetham Festival runs from 27th to 30th September, celebrating one of the most diverse communities in the UK.  Over the three days, there will be lots of events in a wide variety of local hubs such as Central Gurdwara, the Manchester Jewish Museum, the New Testament Church of God, the Ukrainian Cultural Centre, the Irish World Heritage Centre and Oasis Academy Temple.

The Academy had the honour of hosting the opening event today.  Year 6 pupils welcomed guests and gave a short speech about the Festival, before choir, dance and Steel Pans performances from a number of groups including pupils from Abraham Moss Community School and St Chad’s RC Primary School.

Some of the most spectacular performances included a Ghatka Group sword dance, a poetic interpretative dance performance, and finally a staff and pupil catwalk, showcasing all the countries represented here at Temple.  Cheetham’s current Mayor officially announced this year’s festival open.

Gareth Redston, Chair of the Cheetham Cultural Festival says, “The theme of our festival this year is ‘All Different, All Equal,” a fitting motto for a festival whose aim is to celebrate the rich and unique cultural diversity of Cheetham and Crumpsall, one of the most diverse communities in the country.”

“This year’s festival is the 15th in our history and the continued success of this annual celebration is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of all the people who give up their time to make it happen and all of those who show their support by attending events each year.”
